Twice Cursed
by Miss Anata
My name is Loki. I am twenty-three, tall, with brown bleeding black hair, and eyes the same color brown as a dogs. I prefer wearing black or red clothes and sneakers. I am not psychotic, and have no mental diseases. Yet, I am the most cursed girl on earth. As far as I know, I am more cursed than the devil. How am I cursed you ask? Well, I’d have to start at the beginning.
When I was young and innocent, instead of just young, I went to a bazaar in Ireland. It was there where I found a beautiful pair of earrings. They were perfect, silver, identical wing shaped earrings, about the size of a pinky finger. I asked the lady selling them how much she wanted for them. Truth be told I should have known something was up when she agreed to sell them for five Euros, but I would soon pay for my foolishness.
I put the earrings on as soon as I left the marketplace. I made it all the way to my hotel room before things got weird. I first heard a voice right by my right ear say, “Well, we’ve got to introduce ourselves, haven’t we.” Then a voice by my left ear replied, “Yes, we’d best get this over with.” I truly wish it had been my imagination. Two apparitions appeared in front of me. The one on the right was dressed in a bright blue prom dress with white gloves, her black hair done up in a loose wispy bun, and her skin was lavender. The apparition on my left was dressed in a dark purple pinstripe suit, her black hair curled in ringlets, and her skin was also lavender. They appeared to be twins.
“I’m Love,” said the right apparition.
“And I’m Charm,” said the other. It was then that I fainted.
I finally woke up a few hours later from my nice little nap thinking there weren’t any spirits attached to my earlobes, and that it all was a dream.
“Do you think we scared her Charm?”
“No Love, she was so excited she fainted.”
“I don’t know, she not waking up.”
“Give her a moment, Love, they always faint at first.”
“That other one didn’t.”
“Love, even you have to admit that she wasn’t exactly sane to begin with.”
“Well, I still liked her…. Hey Charm, I think she’s waking up.”
Well to be truthful, I still hadn’t opened my eyes. I was busy coming to the decision that I would take the earrings off and chunk them into the nearest lake, or the ocean, which ever was closest. I reached up to take them off, but the cursed things wouldn’t come off.
“Uh, Oh, Charm, she’s trying to take us off.”
“Don’t worry Love, she can’t now.”
“Is she a mute Charm, she hasn’t said anything?”
“Love, really, you’re starting to sound like Bliss.”
“No I am not.”
“Yes you are.”
“Are not.”
“Are too.”
I really couldn’t take any more. “Will the both of you be quiet!!?” I yelled.
“Sorry,” they said in unison.
“See Love, there’s your answer, she’s not a mute.” Said Charm? Really who names their kids Charm and Love?
“No,” I said, “but apparently I’ve gone mad.”
“You’re not mad,” said Love, “you’re just the possessor of two possessed magical earrings.”
This was too much for me; I mean really, possessed magical earrings, what next antler’s sprouting from my head. “Okay Loki, calm down, deep breaths, there’s no such thing as ghosts, there’s no such thing as ghosts.” I told myself aloud.
“She’s hit stage two, denial,” said Charm.
“Isn’t the Nile a river in Egypt?” said Love.
“I’ll try not to,” I mumbled as I, yet again, fell asleep.
Several hours later I woke up with the dawning realization that I was truly stuck with two possessed earrings, a story that would get me into the loony bin, a very empty stomach and a horrible, throbbing ache in my shoulder blades. I went into the adjoining hotel bathroom to freshen up and see why my shoulders hurt so much. I was shocked to find…
“Why do I have cherub wings growing out of my back?” I asked aloud.
“Because they’re cute,” said Love, “and it’s part of the deal.”
“What deal?” I asked with trepidation.
“They aren’t very useful, sure, but they make a bold fashion statement,” she continued without stop. “Besides, not very many people will hurt cherubs.”
“That doesn’t answer my question Love.”
“Don’t they look cool though? I’ve always kinda wanted bat wings, but cherub wings look better on you.”
I sighed. “Love, where’s Charm?”
“Sleeping.”
“Could you please wake her up?”
“Okay… CHARM WAKE UP!!!”
“WHAT LOVE!!?” Charm apparently is up and in a sour mood. Well that makes two of us.
“Mistress wants to know about the cherub wings,” Love said, “she asked me to wake you up.”
“Cherub wings?”Charm asked, “Oh those.”
“Yes,” I said, “I would like to know why I have a pair coming out of my back.”
“Let me put it simply,” Charm said, “Love and I have to alter your body a little in order to work properly. You can’t have too much of certain stuff in your body, so it is converted into, well…”
“Cherub wings,” I stated in some disbelief. “Is there any way to make them disappear?”
“We have no control over that, unfortunately, and they would be stuck to you even if we weren’t.”
Great, it’s not enough that I have two specters with magical powers permanently stuck to my ears, but now I have cherub wings. Of course then I realized that I would never have any alone time ever. Not in the bathroom, not on the toilet, not in the shower, not getting dressed, nor with a guy. I would never have any actual privacy ever again. It made me want to kill someone, and not myself either.
My stomach growled at me, signaling that I needed to get some food before my plane ride back home. So I packed my bag, put on a black trench coat to hide the wings, went outside, hailed a cab, and went to the nearest restaurant. Nobody seemed to notice the spirits that were hanging around me, which confirmed my fear that I was the only one who could see them. Although, there were a lot of dogs and cats that stared at me, so maybe I’m not a crazy as I think. I got on the plane without any problems, other than Security trying to remove the wings (they didn’t come off), and made it safely to my house in Springfield.
That is how I became the most cursed girl on the face of the earth.

If anyone wants to draw a picture of Loki, please feel free, since I can’t draw at all. L
I will try to come up with more stories about Loki in time.
