Fangirl #24 – Just Text Today!

Posting for posting’s sake. Too lazy to grab some images, but hey! You’re hear to read anyway, right? That’s what I thought. Reading. Reading my writing. Which is text-based.

Moving on:

Fangirling away commencing now! And fair warning–I include shameless spoilers. Read at your own discretion. Mwa ha ha ha.

The Dark Knight Rises:

Good movie. It’s about on par with Batman Begins for me–I liked about 50% of it, and was frustrated with the rest. Second half of the movie is significantly better than the first half.

And I’ll give credit where credit is due: Hatheway was an okay Catwoman.

Entire movie was worth it for Jonathan Crane’s Cameo, Commissioner Gordon, and John Blake. <3

Supergirl #11:

I love this series so much. And Tom is adorable. Supergirl & Tom. Kara x Tom. I need more of this in my life.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #11:

Isabel. She must stay in this series and I love her space suit. She’s so cute. *cuddles*

Back to the Future:

This would be the true fangirling of the month. I marathoner all three movies, played through all five episodes of the Telltale game, looked up clips from the tv series here nd there, and have been diving into the fandom.

I forgot how much I loved Back to the Future. No, seriously. The movies completely hold up after all this time. They’re still amazing. I still remember all the scenes & grinned and smiled the entire set.

Marty is adorable. Doc is amazing. Their friendship passes the test of time, age, and all that fun stuff. Love it.

In conclusion: If you have not seen the entire Trilogy of Back to the Future–do so now. Watch all three. You won’t be disappointed. <3

Fangirl #23 – Madoka and Owls…and The Once-ler

Whoo! We got some Fangirlin’ to do today! :D

Anime

Madoka Magica: Okay, so I’m watching this series episode by episode over on Crunchy Roll just to check it out after all the hype and fandom I see. Up to Episode 9, I thought it was a creative, dark take on Magical Girls. The twists were good, the animation was fantastic, and I was enjoying it–but nothing that I was too crazy over. Or rather, I didn’t mind waiting a few days after they released the episode to watch it, I should say. It was good, but nothing I was totally in love with.

And then Episode 10 happened, “I Won’t Rely On Anyone.”

Akemi Homura.

This is approximately 21:00 minutes into the episode. I literally shouted, "Yes! You are awesome and I love you!"

This. Was. Amazing. I don’t want to spoil it–but this is how you do “Homura’s Power” right.  This is the episode that validated & made the rest of the series amazing, made me fall in love with Homura, her relationship with Madoka in its entirety, and has me itching for the next few episodes. Love it. So good.

Recorder and Randsell: I’d just like to stick in here that this show is still freakishly adorable and the episodes should be longer.

Comics

Supergirl #8: New Artist! It threw me a little, but it wasn’t bad. Just a different style, but it all still looked good. Actually liking the Silver Banshee storyline. New girl Siobahn is fun and her & Kara were great interacting off each other. Seriously, people wanting awesome females in comics should be reading this. >.> It’s just been one great girl after another.

My only complaint is the Silver Banshee costume is…ew. *Shiver*

Kori and Roy Adorable

Yes. Yes. Yes. 1000x Yes.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #8: This….has easily become my favorite issue of the series. 10/10 no question. It had everything.

It was fun, funny (hilarious, really), adorable, sweet, heartwarming, and full of action all packed together in a smooth narrative. I were to list my ‘favorite parts’ I’d pretty much quote the entire thing, but, for highlights’ sake: 1) I now ship Roy and Kori 100% and if that happens I will squeal in fangirl joy. 2) The Tim & Jason moment was amazing and well, perfect. Sooo good. I might actually hunt this one down in print. <3

Nightwing #8: I dropped Nightwing back at issue #3, but I was informed this was a must have as far as the Owl’s arc was concerned. So I went ahead and snatched it…and I’m glad I did. Definitely an improvement from what I was reading earlier & the cliffhanger was amazing. Can’t wait for #9. :D

Batman #8: This would be the one everyone’s talking about and waiting for. And they are right to do so:

“…I now know that you can spend your whole life learning Gotham from deep inside, and still know nothing about it at all.” -Bruce Wayne, Batman #8: Attack on Wayne Manor

Jaw dropping issue. If I were to paste the best screens, it’d be the entire book. Amazing writing, amazing artwork & top form cover to cover. I don’t know who was better, Alfred or Bruce. You’ve read the summaries elsewhere, so I’ll just say go read it as a second opinion (or probably a third or forth or fifth since I’m behind. XD) I had reservations when the Court of Owls thing first started, but this is an amazing cross-issue arc and I recommend it full force. <3

And, since that’s all the drama and action you need, we’ll just end with this one:

Movies

The Once-ler

He's adorable.

The Lorax:  Loved this movie. Love the soundtrack more though: Ed Helms can sing and be hilarious at the same time. It’s an amazing combination.

I didn’t think I’d like this movie, mostly because movies that push the ‘Go Green!’ thing tend to bug me, but hey! I liked Captain Planet, right?

Anyway, the green-thing wasn’t nearly as in your face as I thought it might be, and giving The Once-ler some character and motivation worked very, very well. He also got the best musical number in the movie–“How Bad Can I Be” never really leaves your head. And Once-ler is amazing…because he’s adorable and I loved him. So much. I drew so much fanart of him and I really, really want the DVD to come out already so I can take screens of him in his suit and stare at them all day.

*cough* But aside from being obsessed with The Once-ler, it was funny and Ted’s Mother made me laugh more than Betty White as Grandma Norma.

And the sounds cut from the movie and/or the original demos are amazing. Love the soundtrack. Buy it. :D

ONCE-LER IS LOVE.

Fangirl #22 – Supergirl Rules

Okay, I know-I know. Two fangirl updates in a row. But I’m squealing so I’m getting it down while I still got it!

And this is a Comics Special!

I just love this panel. XD

Thor: First Thunder

Just letting you know real quick that I finished reading the 5 Issue special. My conclusion? Hated the artwork, adored the story. Really good & I love how the Donald Blake & Thor thing came together.

And you know–Loki. Man do I love Loki.

But yeah, my only complaint was the artwork–there were frames here or there I really liked, but for the most part it was sort of…blocky? I don’t know. It’s not bad, I just didn’t like it.

And to clarify, I just mean the style–the panel layouts, the pacing and basic framing/poses are great. XD

Moving on.

She is so awesome. <3

Supergirl #7

I just want to take the entire issue and paste it here. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. I squealed, in other words.

Non-stop battle brawl in the middle of the city. Supergirl vs. Four “World Killer” Alien Ladies.

Everything in this issue looked amazing, read well, and was Full-Stop awesome.

I’ve going to say it–I think this Reboot was one of the best things to happen to Supergirl. I love this take on her character, the costume has totally grown on me, and if she keeps rocking like she has, I can tell this is never leaving my pull list.

I really can’t wait for Supergirl to run into the other members of the Super Family. Though, I don’t’ know if I’m looking forward to the Banshee plot lines coming up or not.

Not that I’m not excited for more Supergirl/Kara, but more so that I’m not familiar with Banshee at all. XD

So we’ll see how that goes.

Now, let’s see…ah yes. My Comics fans~ The BATS!

Batman #7

Okay. Massive spoiler follows for the next paragraph, but I’m going to ruin it anyway:

I laughed so hard when Bruce back-handed Dick in the mouth.

I’m done. But no, the Owl’s thing is getting deeper and more involved and gosh darn it I might have to actually go pick up Nightwing again to catch up with what was going on with his end. Dumb multi-book series plot line. XD *grumbles at the owls*

But no. Good stuff.

And of course~

Jason can do disguises, too. The sweater-vest was better, though. Even though that wasn't a disguise. That's not the point. XD

Red Hood and the Outlaws #7

I’m going to say it — It was good. Essence is back, Jason looks great in large glasses, Starfire is adorable when she’s sulking, Roy’s too cute, and well–It was good!

Descriptive, I know.

I am a little glad this storyline is over though. I don’t mind all the deep stuff with Jason’s past and what-not, but I was never too big on it either. I think the All-Caste thing and the ancient city and training thing was…I’m not sure. All I do know is I didn’t quite like it. Sure it explains what he was doing between being raised from the dead and coming back to Gotham as the Red Hood, but it seemed…complicated? I guess. I dunno. XD

I mostly enjoy the interactions between our main trio when it comes to this series–They work off each other so much better than they should.

Also, Roy & Kori are getting to Roy~ *hee hee*

Anyway, good stuff all around and the artwork is amazing like always~

And now for a brief tangent:

Love her now.

Starfire – Another look:

Let’s talk about Starfire for a moment. Mostly because a lot’s been revealed since the first issue and my earlier thoughts.

She’s awesome. That’s all there is to it. I don’t know what it is, but I love this new sulky, cranky, & often very affectionate version of her character. She’s very take-charge without ordering everyone around.

It’s cute.

Anyway, there’s clearly more far more depth to her than the first issue revealed, and it’s a little more obvious Jason was messing with us when he talked about her memory issues (they are not nearly as bad as he made it seem, in other words).

The point is — this is the first time I’ve really liked her as a character, and I think that matters.

The original version of comic Starfire–I always thought she was, well…Boring. What little I read of her, was either falling for Dick, or just sort of hanging around being too happy? I’m not sure. I only read snips and bits and pieces, but none of them were ever enough to make me want to read more about her.

The Teen Titans cartoon version wasn’t much better, either. I didn’t hate her, or love her. She was just sort of there as far as I was concerned. Sometimes she verged on annoying, but still nothing major.

This one? Love her. I think she’s adorable, fierce, and her interactions with Roy and Jason never cease to be amusing. She’s got more chemistry with those two than I ever think she did with Dick & I’m loving it.

And that’s all for now~ :D

Liliy is a Fangirl #16

Hey! Back from vacation and ready and rarin’ to go! Long one today! :D Though I really need to find a better way to organize some of these…I might try using lists or something. We’ll see–but for now, the usual:

Movies

Once Upon a Brother’s Grimm:

Dean Jones and Paul Sand Singing

Dean Jones singing makes me ridiculously happy.

If you haven’t heard of this movie, it came out in 1977 and stars Dean Jones & Paul Sand. When I was little, I ate this movie up. You don’t even understand. So, during a WaM ustream, the topic of fairy tales came up and then Grimm stories and this movie came back to the front of my mind like smack to the face.  So I checked Amazon and realized it had a DVD release. Joy came.

Teri Garr as the Frog Princess

Teri Garr as the Frog Princess (One of my Dad's favorite actresses!)

I watched it twice in a row. There’s just something amazing about a cheesy, funny musical. It makes me laugh and even the old special effects have their own charm. I forgot how much fun that little fuzzy line around obvious blue screen effects could be.

Why do I really love it, though? Easy. Jones & Sand are hysterical. The rest of the cast is hysterical (even better–my mother walked in during the movie and recognized all the actors, since they were all big stars when she was in high school). The songs are ridiculously catchy and the costume design is fabulous (No, seriously–I’ve remembered the costumes from this movie even from when I was little watching on my recorded VHS tapes–they’re amazing). I even have a love for the very obvious stage sets.

The movie’s charming and I love it. If you can get a copy of the DVD I highly recommend it. :D

South Park: Yeah, so I’m really, really behind the curve- but I finally saw South Park: Bigger, Longer & UnCut. Loved it. That is all.

Cartoons

South Park: I’ve been on a South Park Binge lately. Not denying it. I love Kyle, Stan & Kenny. That is all…again.

Comics

So, trying to sit down and sort out my comics spending. So I might actually start dropping and picking up series depending how much I want to read them. I caught up today with the ones I cared about…and I finally get to start listing issue numbers since…I’m behind on a few series. Yay!

Aquaman #3: Mera & Arthur are still one of the greatest super hero power couples ever. Even when they’re just sitting around listening to someone talk about a creature from beneath the deep. Winning line of the issue? “He lives in a lighthouse.”

Dick and Bruce Quip

Why do I love you in every comic but your own, Dick? WHY?

Batman #4: Still by far one of the best series of the new DC 52. The art is fantastic and the Owl themed villain is getting more and more interesting. I wasn’t all that interested in Talon at first, but he’s starting to grow on me.

I also happen to love how Dick Grayson has been portrayed in this series. He always gets a chuckle from me.

The best part of this issue though (aside from the riddle at the end), was the flash back to young Bruce. Seriously man, Bitty!Bruce was hardcore. Such a little dedicated cutie. XD

Catwoman #4: The last page won me over. The issue was a little slow, mostly background and catching up–but the last few pages introducing a new Meta antagonist and well… Selina sums it up with “Crap.”

Flash #3: The artwork continues to be the highlight of this series. Love it. Little too much going on in this issue though, I found myself skimming a bit. Though, it does kind of makes sense considering Flash himself has a million things going on at once. So, it sort of works.

Justice League Dark #3: I have no idea who most of these people are save for Zatana and Deadman due to his connection to Dove. Makes for fun reading. XD

Roy and Jason in a Bar

I love them. So much. They may replace Tim & Conner as my favorite DC Bromance.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #4: Okay. This series is still rocking my world. Love it. Love it. Love it. Roy and Jason are totally ruling their bromance all over the place and I love it. (Have I mentioned I love this series?) Roy Harper is still stealing the show though. His little intro about being an alcoholic and Jason being his only friend were endearing and made me love him more. Jason is still being a total bad ass & Starfire? She’s still awesome. Starfire vs Crux was fun and I’m looking forward for them to continue.

The winning moment of the issue had to be Roy’s latest nickname for Jason: “Jaybird” That is win. So much win. <3

Supergirl and Mr. Tycho

I love you Mr. Tycho. I hope you and Supergirl clash for many issues to come.

Supergirl #4: This series is the only one competing with Hawk & Dove and Red Hood. I love it. I’ve never been this big of a fan of Supergirl in my life.

And Mr. Tycho is definitely one of the best villains to come into the DC. If he existed before, I will need to look him up.

But no, Kara was kicking some butt all over the place and there was a heartfelt moment here or there with Tycho’s mooks. I really can’t wait for the next issue and to see if Kara gets back together with Superman. Favorite line? It’s in the image to your left: “…that’s gonna be expensive.”

Teen Titans #3 & #4: I was going to stay a week behind on this series, but it’s so tied in with  Superboy I felt like I needed to catch up.

Awesome. These two issues were way better than the first two–way more action was happening that was interesting. I loved Bart’s two page spread of his speeding around, as well as Tim doing some great undercover work. The group’s finally an item and we’re treated to some awesome Young Justice (the 90’s series, not the new one) bickering. It’s great.

And we’ve finally got the last new member: Miguel aka Bunker. He is so much fun. XD

Miguel and Tim

Miguel and Tim -- Gotta' love the happy ones...even if he probably is scaring Tim.

I have a feeling I’m going to love Miguel. He’s well…he’s happy–which is something this group needs. Plus, I have serious weakness for gratuitous Spanish. Actually, I’m liking all of the new guys: Skitter is fun now that she’s talking & Solstice is spunky.

Plus, Bart and Tim are back together. Finally. Bart and Tim bickering was great. When Bart steals Tim’s clothing at the end of issue #4 I was dying of laughter.

All we need now is Superboy on board and I’ll get my power trio back. Young Justice made me adore the Conner/Tim/Bart trio and it needs to going again. *waits patiently for Superboy vs Wondergirl to come to a close*

And I think that wraps things up. I’m sure you’ve noticed I’ve dropped Superman & Nightwing…I’ll get back to them…Eventually.

Liliy is a Fangirl #12

…I did other things this week like movies and tv shows, but they were all kinda’ drowned out by DC’s comics this week. XD So without further ado~

(and you know this by now but — spoilers may appear!)

Comics

Batman #3 : Some dude really likes owls. XD I’d say more, but that’s really the gist of what I got from this issue…heh.

Mr. Tycho from Supergirl

Let him be a full time villain. Let him be a full time villain.

Supergirl #3 :  Let Mr. Tycho be a full time villain. Please, please, please, please DC don’t let him be a one shot intro villain. I’m begging.

I love him already.

I don’t know why, but he’s handsome, suave, has a secretary and I really hope he turns out to be Supergirl’s personal Lex Luthor.

Speaking, Supergirl is still rocking. I’m not usually for the slow burn, but with such gorgeous artwork, it happens to work for this series better than you’d expect. Loving it.

And let Mr. Tycho be a full time villain, please.

Catwoman Issue 3

She's awesome.

Catwoman #3 : Man this was a good issue. It had it all: powerful action, a great bad guy and some really moving scenes on Selina’s part.

I’ve noticed people complaining Selina’s been really reckless lately, and not as well planned out as more modern versions–but wasn’t that the point of the reboot? To take her back to a younger, less experienced Catwoman?

She’s still learning, and she’s finally realizing her behavior has consequences. That’s the part of the story that’s engaging and I’m really glad we get to see it here with the Lola storyline.

Also, Batman & Catwoman’s relationship is getting more defined and I love that all over the place.

Nightwing #3 :  This might honestly be the first series I drop from the DC line. XD I am really having a hard time caring about Dick Grayson and his problems. It’s not that it’s poorly written or anything, I just don’t think I’m a huge Grayson fan. I didn’t really start liking the Robins until Tim got to the scene (The Jason/Tim hybrid on B:TAS), and then fell in love with Comic Tim Drake & Jason Todd in Under The Red Hood. I don’t think I started liking Dick until he was Batman and teamed up with Damian…so. Yeah. Having trouble with this one. XD

Wonder Woman in Justice League #3

She won me over with 'Harpy'

Justice League #3 : Wow. XD I might actually like Wonder Woman for a change.  She was awesome.

I’m not even joking. There was something so great about her wandering around, not having a clue about anything, while Steve tried to track her down.

It’s fun and adds to the humor that Justice League has had building through this entire ‘here comes Darkseid’ thing. Plus, Green Lantern called ‘Dibs’ and that’s hilarious all by itself. Loving Justice League. It’s almost worth that extra dollar they’re charging. (But it still hurts.)

And for the record – I like the bloomers. I hope Diana never gets pants. *sits strongly in the short-shorts camp*

Red Hood and the Outlaws #3 : All the haters of Red Hood and the Outlaws? Read this issue. Now. I’ll sum up my thoughts by this:

Kori: Girl, you scary. o_O

Roy: You sweet, idiotic lug head…stop making Killer Croc weird…heh.

Jason: I’m going to beat you over the head. YOU GO GET THAT MEMORY BACK RIGHT NOW! *fumes*

Sorry. XD My favorite part about Jason Todd has always been his daddy issues. No question.

Still, the last scene of Red Hood and the Outlaws is as moving as the last scene in Under the Red Hood.

Look at it:

Jason and Bruce

Perfect Family Moment

Nothing more needs to be said.
