I think the fact that the rich guy was executed a week later makes it tens times worse. And infinitely more comedic

okay so, of the swords anyways, Grace is the oldest, being at least 547 years old (comic 652) Eclat being 230, assuming he was made a sword at the beginning of the the revolution, and prudence is the youngest at around ninety, putting her in just before world war two. interesting.

Reply

Just to help with ages, Grace included her actual age–aka how old she was when she got picked up–in that 90 years. So it’s more like just after WWII. :D Your tidbit of ze’ day.

Wait, Grace is female? Or was that just an acronym slip? I’ve always seen Grace referred to as male before!

Reply

“Grace included [Prudence's] actual age–aka how old [Prudence] was when she got picked up–in that 90 years.”

That help? XD

…I don’t approve of Eclat’s attitude toward women, obviously, but I understand it better now. Poor guy.

Reply

I feel a lot more sympathetic for Eclat now. Amazing what some backstory can do. :)
I’m curious as to what significance that ring has…

Reply

“I got the money the way you said to” is a line with ugly implications.

Poor guy.

Reply

Add to that the fact that his hair is mused up and his, neck-tie thing(idk) is undone.

I feel more sympathetic for him than Grace.

Reply

I feel sympathy for them both; Eclat’s mommy was horrible and Gracie lost his dolls (who I got the feeling really were the only things he could probably talk to since everyone else avoided him, reasonably or not).

Reply

Wait so those dolls…ya know how they are voodoo dolls right? Did the people they represented burn? Or we’re they not voodoo dolls? Or am I just misunderstandin everything voodoo?

Reply

No, they were to represent his victims. I get the feeling he made them after he was done with his victims.
Look at the kid in panel 2, then at the doll in panel 4(on the last page).

Reply

I can’t really feel sympathy for a guy who killed kids (and the, other stuff he did *shudder* not sure if I can get away with saying what he did). Sorry.

Reply

What other stuff? Did I miss something?

Anyway, Grace is an unrepentant monster. But Eclat’s mother seems worse to me. Murdering other people’s kids isn’t as vile as selling your own, in my opinion.

Though honestly it’s a bit of a silly comparison. Trying to measure evil is pretty much nonsense.

Reply

So, was he selling his body to a guy or one of his mother’s friends… Honestly though she was pimping him out.

O.O Two things
-Eclat’s expression and what he said in the sixth panel: Just….*makes sad, “wants to give Eclat a hug after smoothering Grace with love” look* In a way he reminds me of William, aka Spike from Buffy before he got turned vampiric
-I’m glad Eclat got some kindness before he was turned. And the woman who bought him looks like Belphegor.

Reply

Belphegor? From the “Return to Eden” comic? I can see the resemblance…

Reply

If it makes either of you feel better, I have no idea who Belphegor is. I was just looking at French dresses & made it red. XD *shrugs and doesn’t look up person*

Reply

Interestingly, the colours of the ring (red and gold) are the same colours as the sword he becomes attached to…

Reply

I’m inclined to think that the ring is part of the binding. Although Grace doesn’t mention it, I suspect he was given a gift as well. It’s classic ‘good cop, bad cop’ “Everyone else is mean and evil. I can’t save you from them, but here is a gift, so as you die you know we’re not all bad.” Then you concentrate on the gift while they are torturing you which increases the binding.
