Katsucon 19 – 2013

It’s that time again! My Convention report! No pictures today ’cause…honestly I didn’t buy any figures this year, and that’s really the only reason I take pictures to show off. So…reading you shall!

Friday

I got to the convention on time this year. XD I only had an hour delay! Go me!

As soon as I got there, we stood in line and registered (The Pre-Reg line was longer than the normal registration when we got there, which is sort of funny, but true…). Followed quickly by a trip to the dealer’s room. A friend showed up while we were there, so we ditched and helped her unpack.

From there, it was the AMV competition! Two of the videos had technical difficulties, which sucked, but overall it was a good show with a lot of great entries. Though one of the filler, pre-show entries: Gaga For Bishies, made me laugh the most.

After AMV’s we went back to the room and crashed watching some Tron: Uprising. Bold because you should watch it. WATCH IT.

Friday night ended with a trip to the VIP Club on the 18 & 19th floors of the Gaylord Hotel…and then bed.

Saturday

We finally hit the Artist’s Alley, where I got some awesome Tsuritama fanart. And you know how much I love Tsuritama. Then it was the Dealer’s room, where I actually behaved myself this year and only bought the Dark Souls Design Works art book, and a grab bag that I ended up giving the contents away to one of my roomies.

Oh! I got a plushie of Wheatley. That probably deserves a pic:

Wheatley Plush

Ain’t he cute? Yeah. He is. Let’s see. After Dealer’s Room, we hit Artist Alley & Ran into some fine folks at Tamuran and Snow by Night. I saw the TechnoAngel Crew’s booth, but didn’t say hi. xD But I saw them!

After that we tried to watch AMV Hell, but due to technological difficulties, we crashed the A Certain Scientific Railgun Video Room instead. Cute show. Might have to check out more later.

Then it was Dinner at the restaurant across from the hotel, and we returned in time for one more trip around Dealer’s and Artist Alley before heading to the showing of Hellsing: Ultimate Abridged. Funny stuff. (We also caught the end of an episode of Blood C. Violent stuff. XD)

Sunday

Apparently a fire alarm went off early in the morning, but we all thought it was someone’s alarm clock and ignored it. When the ‘all clear’ went off an hour or so later, we…realized we’d slept through something. Oops.

Got all our crap in the car, and went one more time around Dealer’s & Artist’s Alley. Though this time, I stopped being blind and actually noticed Naki’s booth. XD I’ve been talking to her online for like 12 years, so it was really cool to put a face to her name and artwork. :D

I also got a Braeburn keychain from her. <3

We ended our con trip by attending the Symphonic Anime Orchestra performance. Good stuff for a group that was pretty much sight reading. XD Nice selection & a great end. :3

And I’m out. :D

Nekocon 15 -2012

It’s that time again! Where I give you a rundown of my con events & fun, fun, fun~ :D

Friday

Friday was a bit of a wash. I didn’t get to the con until around 6pm, and even then I had to stand in line to register with my brother. We didn’t get to Artist’s Alley to say “Hi!” to everyone until 7pm or so. We ran around the Dealer’s Room & Artist Alley for a bit, but we went home early.

Saturday

I was at the convention (or with people from the convention) from 8:30 in the morning, to oh, 1:00AM Sunday. Long day.

So, I had the honor of being invited to sit in & talk on a Panel with the Tamuran crew about writing for Long-Format webcomics. We had about 11 or 12 people sit in, so that was awesome. It was my first time on a panel, and I consider it a good one. :3

After that, we (my brother & I) dashed to the AMV Competition & it was a good show this year. The hands down best video (in my humble opinion) was definitely PonyNote. Oh man, PonyNote–how had I not seen you before?

Anyway, after that we took a lunch break & then ran around the Dealer’s Room & Artist Alley to get this year’s Haul. (Which you’ll see below.)

We headed off to watch Evangelion 2.22 around 8pm–still an awesome movie, btw.

Then! Dinner with 14 folks from Artist’s Alley at Oliver Garden until 1AM. It was awesome and included a lot of different studios & it was fun to tag along even though I didn’t have a table, but Erin & Chez of Tamuran invited me, so nyah.

I’d list all the groups, but I can’t remember everyone and I don’t want to leave anyone out. XD

Sunday

The standard run around the dealer’s room and artist alley. Easy day.

THE HAUL

Mami Soul Gem

I love Mami. Now I can carry her with me everywhere! :D

This one is actually an early christmas present from my brother. :3 He knows what a big fan I am of Mami from Madoka Magica, so he got me her Soul Gem as a Cell Phone charm. It’s already on there and I play with it. I’m counting down until I break/shatter the thing. XD

Tamuran Bookmark

BOOKMARK

So, Tamuran Bookmark. Isn’t it cool? I had a hard time picking which one I wanted. Soooo many cool knot designs. T_T They make me jealous.

Kaji and Misato

Aren’t they cute?

So, if you’ve paid attention to my previous Con Hauls, you know I’ve got a wee obsession with Misato Katsuragi figures. Well, Saturday I found a figure of Kaji. I’ve never seen a figure of Kaji before, and as he’s Misato’s main man–it was a no-brainer. Lucky enough, he came with a cute Bikini!Misato that was the same size. :D

Kaji's Backside

Misato knows what she likes.

Heh. Looks good from both sides,  ya’ know? XD  <3

Misato Standing

She’s so cool. <3

Last but not least, my big purchase of the con: Large Misato Figure. So this con, I got 2 Misato figures!!! Whoo hoo.

I’m going to start running out of figures to buy sooner or later. There aren’t as many Misato as Rei and Asuka. XD Ahhhh.

Sunday I also bought some discount DVDS, but I forgot to take a picture of them. I think it was Burnout & Princess Minerva? Something like that.

Overall

Fun convention. I think I interacted with the most people this time around, which is always good & fun. XD Love you, Nekocon!

Katsucon 18 – 2012

Another year, another Katsucon. Katsucon will always have a special place for me, because it was the first Anime Convention I ever attended back when it was still in Crystal City DC!

…the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor is much nicer for the record. Man do I love that place. Perfect spot for the convention. <3

Moving on.

Friday

Arrived the earliest I’ve ever arrived at this convention-12:30pm. I blame my brother driving. XD We spent most of the day running around the Dealer’s Room and Artist Alley where I was greeted by an awesome surprise from Erin of Tamuran! :D

BLISS:

Bliss. That's Bliss.

Yeah. That guy found a real sphere of Chalcedony (what Bliss is made from)–and it is awesome. Even got one with a scratch on it:

Still awesome.

Yes, I did end up showing it off to everyone who knew who Bliss was. *cough* Lots of fun that. Yes, lots of fun.

I wore these all Friday and Saturday! :D

And of course, stopped by to say hello to TechnoAngel where my brother got a Brony button, and then next door I said ‘ello to Megami of Annie where I got a cute pair of cat ears! :D

Jealous of her sewing talents. >.>

Let’s see…finished up Friday with watching Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Been a while since I spent some time with Vash and co. and it was as great as I remember it being.

Also: Wolfwood. Wolfwood. Missed him so. XD

The rest of the day was Game Room fun (yay Rhythm games) and sleeping.

Saturday

AMV contest all the way. XD

Then more shopping and spending too much money.

Followed by watching Great Teacher Onizuka: The Movie (Live Action)–which was actually pretty good. I’m always a bit sketchy with Japanese Live Action shows. It’s not that they’re bad or anything, I’m just not a huge fan of the acting style–but it worked really well here and Onizuka was a sweetheart as always. :) Good movie.

At this point, we had a bit of a crisis with the plumbing in our room, and almost had to switch. Which would have sucked since we got an awesome balcony room overlooking the atrium this year. So cool to have an indoor balcony. <3 But it was all fixed and we got to keep the room. Yay!

We then watched some Madoka Magica and a little Antique Bakery. So lots of Video Room time this year for us! XD

Sunday

The usual. Wake up, pack like mad, and then do one last run through the dealer’s room! :D

Which means:

The Haul

This isn’t everything–I actually got a grab box with a ton of comics in it, but I did’t feel like taking a picture of everything that was in that thing. o_o

Moving on:

I love .hack anything.

I’ve been a huge fan of the .hack// series since I first caught .hack//Sign on Toonami. I then played through the first four set of games thanks to Creed (Thank you again! *hugs them*) & after that I dug into Roots & the .hack//GU games (My favorites). However! While I owned all the DVD’s to .hack//Sign, I was kinda broke when .hack//roots came out. *sniff* So, I’m really happy to have found all six individual DVDs. Normally I’d just get a box set, but I’m like part-OCD, so if I have Sign as individual DVDs, Roots needed to be the same. *foam*

I just like Keys.

Key necklace. I like keys. Love old fashioned looking Keys. No, it has nothing to do with Kingdom Hearts and an obsession I had with the Lady Luck therefore making any Key that has a card-deck theme of some sort irresistible. No, never.

Bros

Tee hee hee. I have Furuichi and Oga. <3 They’re so cute and little and I shall keep them hooked together like the best friends that they are. *pokes them*

Manga is good.

Yeah, so almost all my money this year went to Manga. After Tokyopop and its subdivision Blu went kaput, I decided this was probably my chance to snag a bunch of titles before I’m forced to hunt them down on Ebay. I read all of them before I got home. XD

And of Course, Misato

Last but not least, my Misato figurine! It’s not a convention unless I come home with a figure of her. XD I’m up to Five! :D They need to start releasing more, too. I’ve gotten around to the point where I’m seeing duplicates. o_o

Conclusion

Awesome convention. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m watching .hack//Roots. XD

NekoCon 2011 – 14th Convention!

It’s thattime again! Another year, another Nekocon, another convention rundown~

And just to get this out of the way: if you called out to me (recognizing the Sally costume I told you about) and I kept walking – my bad. I have serious tunnel vision at stuff like this and tend to block out everything but my destination or the person I was talking to–which would likely have been my brother. XD There is a very good chance I did not hear you at all. Heh.

Cosplay

This year I went all out and dressed up as Sally Jupiter, aka The Silk Spectre, from The Watchmen.

I think it turned out pretty well, if you ask me.

And I also think this is the first time I’ve dressed up at a convention that I was stopped for photos like every ten feet. On the one hand – flattering to know I got the look right and that there are other Sally fans out there! (I hope that was the main reason…though at least two got my picture because I was “Liliy of WaM” – which still isn’t completely setting in. XD *almost weirded out has fans*)

The other hand: I sort of have no idea where all those photos are going to end up (yes I know — the internet — but where and for what!). I’m still sort of uncomfortable having my picture on the internet…but either way, too late to worry about it now….

Friday

Friday was fun. Hung out with ArionWind running around the Dealer’s room and bought some figures before watching a panel on character creation. Also made sure to stop by and say hi to Erin and Chez at the Tamuran table. Didn’t stay long though ’cause they were busy at work. :D

Saturday

This was hang out with my brother day~ We went to the AMV competition before running around Artist Alley and the Dealer’s room. We got lunch at Taco Bell & made it back in time to watch The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya which is still an amazing movie. I recommend everyone see it (assuming you’ve seen the anime – watch that first or the movie might not make sense. XD)

And Saturday is where my con time ended. We ended up doing family stuff all day on Sunday so no last minute visit. ^^;

The Haul

Dark Magician

He's adorable. <3

I have always had it really bad for the Dark Magician – you have no idea. XD Loved him. LOVED HIM. So anyway, bought a ton of YuGiOh Coin figures, but am not posting all the photos because I haven’t taken them all out of their boxes yet to display. Need to rearrange some stuff to make them fit…so you just get my fav instead. :3

Misato Katsuragi

She's still the hottest female ever.

And my Misato Katsuragi collection grows! :D This year’s addition is thanks to ArionWind who got it for me as a gift. :D He didn’t have to, but I’ll accept it for now. So Thank you, AW!

But no, seriously, I have it really bad for Misato. >.> It may be unhealthy. This is figure #4 and I have no intention of stopping….this is why I limit myself to one Misato per con. XD

Midori Days

Impulse purchase...not!

Midori Days is one of those titles where I looked at the premise and went “That’s not suggestive…” in all its glorious sarcasm. But it’s one of those series where after I saw the first trailer (years ago) I went “I sort of want to watch that.” but never did anything about it. It was always just sort of there….asking to be watched.

So I finally caved and bought it when I noticed it was a ‘complete collection’ and well, bought it. I hope to watch it soon. XD

Tamuran

Issue #1 was lonely.

I think it should have been obvious I’d be walking out of the con with these. :P Long-form comics are SO much more satisfying in chapters/volumes vs one at a time. XD

Supergirl and Streaky

Supergirl and Streaky

This is probably the true impulse purchase of the evening. I had been admiring (read: Drooling) over the DC/Marvel Bishoujo figures on sale in the dealer’s room, but sort of winced at the price tag. Well…

My bro bought a ‘Cheetah’ AmeComi figure, and the lady said “It’s buy one, get one half off” in which case I went “SUPER GIRL NAOW.”

In that tone of voice.

No, I am not experiencing Supergirl Fangirlisms thanks to the new Supergirl comic from the DC 52 reboot.

So there you have it. :D We got two figures for the price of one! (Well, a slightly more expensive one, but shut up.)

Conclusion

Another fun convention! Now to figure out if I’m going to Katsucon or not. XD

Supergirl close up

She's so pretty.... *sigh*

…I’m done now.

NekoCon 13

Whoo hoo~ Another Nekocon come & Gone. Only this year I actually talked to people. Hurrah! XD Con Breakdown is now a go!

Friday

I got lucky on Friday. I got to the convention around 12:30pm and basically walked over and registered. I was done registering myself and my brother in less than ten minutes. I can’t remember the last time that’s happened at a convention. Good timing. So anyway, I mostly hung around the Tamuran booth and bothered them as a pest in general save for the few moments I wandered away when they got busy. Even picked up the first issue of their comic & I got a button of the Tree Creature. Glee.

Tamuran Issue 1

Button, button, Whose got the button? I do.

The cute buttons of Ed & Al from Fullmetal Alchemist I got from the TechnoAngel booth next door. & The little Annie button of course came from Megami of Annie. So, a fun social day. XD

Saturday

The busy day of the con was of course, busy. I arrived with my brother (for once, I cosplayed – even if I was just dressed up in my renaissance bar wench outfit XD) and we wandered about. We hit the dealer’s room & artist alley before checking out the awesome AMV competition. All of the videos were really good this year. I was rather impressed.

Around three o’clock I was back at the Tamuran booth where I snuck behind the line & Erin and I played Kip’s Theme (Me on Violin, Erin on Guitar). After that we just played some folks songs and had a blast more or less. And as I stated over at WaM, Humi paid us a visit and I gave out my first autograph. XD So lots of fun there too.

My Saturday Swag:

Swag

Lookie!

Everything except for the Al Keychain came from a random grab box. My bro gave me the keychain. (which is fair considering I bought him two Yoko Figurines. XD). But most importantly – I got a France Hetalia Keychain. I couldn’t make up my mind which one I wanted so I let the box decide for me. Happiness~ *hugs France*

Sexy France

Edit: Also. My brother and I actually went to the Phoenix Wright Mock Trial this year. It was hilarious and I’m glad we went an hour early to get in line. The place was PACKED. Quite literally every seat was filled in the room. So fun stuff there and Frannie’s hair was pink XD

Sunday

And this morning. After church & lunch with the folks, my brother and I headed back for one last walk-around the dealer’s room and artist alley.

My last purchase of the con was the first volume of Winters in Lavelle. As I told Kasey (the author) I see her advertising on WaM all the time…and since I never had time to go click through her archive I just picked up the book. And she was super nice and we had a quick convo with Erin (who was there coincidentally when I went to grab the book XD) and yet again I was told to get a freaking table…it’s a conspiracy I tell you!

Anyway; she signed the book and drew a cute sketch of the heroine. XD

Winters in Lavelle

Winters in Lavelle

Winters in Lavelle

Authograph & Post Card that came with book~

And that ended yet another successful con. Lots of fun & got to meet a few new authors and fans. Yay!! *throws confetti*
