Liliy is a Fangirl #12

…I did other things this week like movies and tv shows, but they were all kinda’ drowned out by DC’s comics this week. XD So without further ado~

(and you know this by now but — spoilers may appear!)

Comics

Batman #3 : Some dude really likes owls. XD I’d say more, but that’s really the gist of what I got from this issue…heh.

Mr. Tycho from Supergirl

Let him be a full time villain. Let him be a full time villain.

Supergirl #3 :  Let Mr. Tycho be a full time villain. Please, please, please, please DC don’t let him be a one shot intro villain. I’m begging.

I love him already.

I don’t know why, but he’s handsome, suave, has a secretary and I really hope he turns out to be Supergirl’s personal Lex Luthor.

Speaking, Supergirl is still rocking. I’m not usually for the slow burn, but with such gorgeous artwork, it happens to work for this series better than you’d expect. Loving it.

And let Mr. Tycho be a full time villain, please.

Catwoman Issue 3

She's awesome.

Catwoman #3 : Man this was a good issue. It had it all: powerful action, a great bad guy and some really moving scenes on Selina’s part.

I’ve noticed people complaining Selina’s been really reckless lately, and not as well planned out as more modern versions–but wasn’t that the point of the reboot? To take her back to a younger, less experienced Catwoman?

She’s still learning, and she’s finally realizing her behavior has consequences. That’s the part of the story that’s engaging and I’m really glad we get to see it here with the Lola storyline.

Also, Batman & Catwoman’s relationship is getting more defined and I love that all over the place.

Nightwing #3 :  This might honestly be the first series I drop from the DC line. XD I am really having a hard time caring about Dick Grayson and his problems. It’s not that it’s poorly written or anything, I just don’t think I’m a huge Grayson fan. I didn’t really start liking the Robins until Tim got to the scene (The Jason/Tim hybrid on B:TAS), and then fell in love with Comic Tim Drake & Jason Todd in Under The Red Hood. I don’t think I started liking Dick until he was Batman and teamed up with Damian…so. Yeah. Having trouble with this one. XD

Wonder Woman in Justice League #3

She won me over with 'Harpy'

Justice League #3 : Wow. XD I might actually like Wonder Woman for a change.  She was awesome.

I’m not even joking. There was something so great about her wandering around, not having a clue about anything, while Steve tried to track her down.

It’s fun and adds to the humor that Justice League has had building through this entire ‘here comes Darkseid’ thing. Plus, Green Lantern called ‘Dibs’ and that’s hilarious all by itself. Loving Justice League. It’s almost worth that extra dollar they’re charging. (But it still hurts.)

And for the record – I like the bloomers. I hope Diana never gets pants. *sits strongly in the short-shorts camp*

Red Hood and the Outlaws #3 : All the haters of Red Hood and the Outlaws? Read this issue. Now. I’ll sum up my thoughts by this:

Kori: Girl, you scary. o_O

Roy: You sweet, idiotic lug head…stop making Killer Croc weird…heh.

Jason: I’m going to beat you over the head. YOU GO GET THAT MEMORY BACK RIGHT NOW! *fumes*

Sorry. XD My favorite part about Jason Todd has always been his daddy issues. No question.

Still, the last scene of Red Hood and the Outlaws is as moving as the last scene in Under the Red Hood.

Look at it:

Jason and Bruce

Perfect Family Moment

Nothing more needs to be said.

Liliy is a Fangirl #8

I clearly need to blog more…or it’ll just be fangirl posts all in a row. XD

Anime

Beelzebub: I finally caught up with the series on CrunchyRoll! :D I forgot how funny this series was in my little break from it (getting caught up with other things.) Furuichi is still holding supreme as favorite character, with his best buddy Oga as a really close second. I’m loving the Six Holy Knights as well – the fav being Alex~ Though the favorite episode of the ones I saw had to be the one right before the volleyball match – the Maid Cafe one (Episode 34 – Maids Run Amok). It definitely got the most laughs and was mostly Furuichi-centric. :D

Though, the first episode I started with, definitely had the screen cap of the series (after the lovely Play Doctor episode where Furuichi and Oga were dressed as nurses):

Oga and Furuichi trapped under a desk.

Despite what this looks like, it doesn’t change the fact they’re spying on girls changing (well, Furuichi is…)

Moving on.

Comics

It looks like the third week in the month is going to be my busiest comic week~

Batman: I love Bruce Wayne. More than that, I love Gotham. The ‘Gotham’ centric theme Batman has been using since the last issue was more than welcome in this one, too, and that our new villain is Owl-themed is just fun. Still turning out to be a top-notch series.

Justice League: I love the humor that’s been in this issue and the last one, and despite it all, Green Lantern of all characters, is turning out to be my favorite hero on the soon-to-be League. You’ve probably seen it mentioned before, but him calling Barry/Flash on a cell phone was absolutely hysterical. I’ve never been a big fan of Justice League (cartoons or otherwise), usually sticking with just the World’s Finest team-up, but if this series keeps this level of humor up, I’m definitely sticking around.

Supergirl: This is still my unexpected diamond in the rough. Unlike some of the other series, this one is completely slow-burn and I love it. It’s another fight-only issue, without much progression in character, but unlike Deathstroke, it was made enjoyable by the gorgeous artwork (dynamic spreads and scenery) and all the emotional trauma. Supergirl’s confusion over Kal-el and her memories was all the more powerful while it was sprinkled in between more and more of her powers popping to life without her permission. Plus – she tossed Superman around quite a bit. Always fun- even more so now that Superman’s got that ‘rebel’ thing going on.

Supergirl suffering.

You just want to hug her.

Despite all the complaints bout DC and women, I think this is the first time I’ve really started loving the DC Girls. Before, the only ones I really liked were the Gotham girls – but now I’m adding Supergirl to my list of favorite ladies. I can’t wait to see where this series goes.

Speaking of Gotham girls!

Catwoman: Where to start? Selina being her sexy, conniving, self. Bruce and Selina flirting. Catwoman in action. Vengeance. And of course – the trend of my favorite characters getting bumped off. I wasn’t ready for it to be so soon. *sobs* Read it. You’ll know what I’m talking about. Where is issue three?

Nightwing: Still probably the least favorite of this series, but this issue was definitely better than issue #1. And they’ve confirmed that Dick & Babs definitely aren’t in a relationship, so, yay! I guess. It’s probably sad I enjoyed Dick more in his cameo in Batman than in his own series…

Starfire

She’s sexy as ever – and I want this outfit. No, really. I want it.

Red Hood and the Outlaws: We’ll start with the bad – I really didn’t like the flashback style of this issue. It was a flashback in a flashback and I was a tad confused about what was going on. Why are they in Hong Kong when the last issue ended in the Himalayas? Honestly, it was a little confusing.

That aside.

The issue was great. Lots of call backs to older comics (“A Death in the Family”), and lots of fun between the three. Jason’s got a soft gooey core now (while still being a merciless killer to those in the underworld – oh Suzie Su~) and Starfire’s got a bit of that naivety back (calling a limo when they’re lying low).

And it’s definitely a lot of fun – teasing back and forth, jumping from helicopters, Starfire & Roy commenting on Jason’s backside during said jump, exploding arrows – really, you can’t go wrong with this.

Starfire comforting Jason

Kenneth Rocafort and Blonde are never allowed to stop drawing/coloring Starfire’s hair.

Roy Harper stole the issue, though. He’s just so ridiculously cute now! The second Jason referred to him as a “Stage Three Clinger” I was sold. Roy’s downright adorable – sort of like that over grown kid who can’t keep his mouth shut and is being baby sat by Mommy Starfire and Daddy Red Hood – while…sleeping with one of them. Honestly, it’s quite hilarious. These three work off each other amazingly and while Crux will probably be an awesome character (Scaly Man-bat!), I’m going to be sad when he (supposedly) joins the team and because the forth wheel to this perfect OT3~

Women in Comics

Say what you want about objectification and male gaze and what not, but thanks to the DC 52 Reboot I’m now a fan of two DC girls that I never particularly cared for before. Supergirl & Starfire – I hope to love you for a long time. <3

Liliy is a Fangirl #6

I am dropping the ball on this posting regularly on a schedule thing, aren’t I? Well, it’s okay since like 5 people read this anyway. XD

Moving on.

Movies

Real Steel came out this week and I still haven’t seen it. RWAR. *noms movie*

Books

Finished Let the Right One In, By Reason of Insanity, & Misery this week. All three very good & worth checking out. :) (All three are horror though, so if you don’t like violence/sex – I’d stay away. XD By Reason of Insanity had the least though; no sex – just a bit of violence but nothing on the level of the vampire book or Stephen King. XD)

Comics

Action Comics: Lex Luthor owned this book. I love that Lex & Clark’s rivalry is getting off to a great start. No matter how much Supes changes, he’s gotta’ have his Lex. Lois has changed quite a bit too, and I still can’t stand her. Hmm. Probably because she’s dating someone else. Her only saving grace for me in all previous incarnations is I thought Clark’s crush on her was the most adorable thing in existence. (It’s either Lois or Bruce. I shall accept nothing less for Clark! :3)

Detective Comics: This one’s hurting a little bit, mostly because Batman was so much better. XD Either way, story is moving along. Bruce is a playboy, the new villain’s got a complex about not being known by Batman (ha ha, inside joke since he’s all brand new to the DC Universe~), and it had a nurse. Nurse is fun.

Static Shock: …it may have just been me, but I had very little idea what was going on in this issue. I might have to re-read it or something. XD

Hawk & Dove: I fangirled over this enough.

Games

I joined City of Heroes~ My character is “The Carmine Authority” and she’s on the Freedom Server~

Minecraft still owns me. :D

Liliy is a Fangirl #5

Yeah, so #5 in the series and I’ve already started posting late. Heh. Yeah, Friday’s update didn’t happen b/c work was annoying and I spent all afternoon on:

Games

Minecraft.

Seriously, I’ve been in such a lousy mood all week all I did when I got home was play Minecraft from 6pm to 1am.

I made a bridge and started construction on an underwater base….the non-smart way. Heh. Let’s just say clearing soil with running water is difficult and I really should have thought that through. *cough*

Here’s some shots:

As you can see….I should have done some more dirt clearing around it. *cough* But that’s okay, b/c I have a heard of sheep:

Moving on.

Comics!

This was the last week of the new DC 52 #1’s! Here’s what I thought:

Flash: Loved it. The artwork was amazing, the humor genuine in a different way than Red Hood, Barry Allen is adorable and I love stories that involve fighting friends. Plus, I get to see the Barry x Iris relationship from the start. Eeeee. (They’re cute.) Patty’s pretty cute too, so I’m looking forward to that little Betty & Veronica fun.

Superman: I couldn’t read this the first time through. It’s really, really text heavy. And it’s descriptive text and speeches. I sat down with it later and tried again with more success. Eh. I think this is the first title I’m just going to wait for the price drop to read the rest of… (So, 1 month behind.) We’ll stick with Action Comics for now.

Teen Titans: Yay!! My Tim is finally back. *hugs* And he’s kinda’ power crazy now. o_0 They definitely went straight with crazy!Red Robin Tim for this one. He’s now definitely a mini-Batman with (A reviewer said this and I can’t get it out of my head) that Ozymandias (Watchman) flair. He’s even got Ozy’s hair now. *cough* Anyway, he’s power crazy and takin’ down evil organizations by himself and realizing….he needs a team. Cue hunting down Wonder Girl (Darn it, Cassie! Accept your name!) and a fun little brawl with helicopters. Yay. Next week should be fun and we’re looming ever closer to Superboy vs Wonder Girl in Issue #3. :D

Aquaman: This was the shocker of the week. I grabbed it on a whim b/c I had heard good things about it and man, was it good. The “Aquaman Sucks” jokes may have gone on one page too long, but the adorableness of Aquaman just trying to order Lunch and having flashbacks of his dad made it all worth it. Plus, you know, his wife Mera. She rocks. And I love they took him back to before the beard and hook that…I don’t know. Aquaman just never felt right for me, but now that he’s young, responsible, and clean shaved again – I think we’re going to have a good long run together.

I also picked up a few other comics this week, Black Cat which I talked about in a separate post, and these two:

Detective Comics #843, Opening Night & 844, Curtains: This was sort of a random drive by pick-up. It’s basically the introduction of the new Ventriloquist, Peyton Riley. I’m going to clarify that I loved Arnold Wesker, so when I heard he died in the comics I was a little miffed. But, I wasn’t ready comics at that time so I still had the cartoons to keep me happy. I picked this up when I noticed that Paul Dini wrote it and that Zatanna was in it.

Loved all of it. Peyton’s story is moving, I loved seeing Scarface again, and Zatanna hitting on Batman/Bruce was great. <3

Movies

Batman: Under the Red Hood. I watched it again. Loved it again. Why haven’t you seen this movie yet?

One of these days I’ll list Finding Nemo properly considering Iv’e watched it an unhealthy number of times.

Liliy is a Fangirl #4

And we’re down to Anime & Comics this week! :D

Anime

No. 6: Why is it over? WHY? *sobs in a corner* I want more. *glares at it*

Digimon: Still working through this…slowly. Been so busy. XD

Comics

This was my biggest DC haul yet. XD

Batman: This was probably the big winner this week. It not only featured Gotham in all it’s glory, but a sneak at the entire house of Arkham, a Joker/Batman tag-team fight, and we got to see both Tim and Damian. Plus, Gordon, Vicki Vale, Bullock, and a sneak peak at a great story arc featuring our favorite Boy Wonder: Dick Grayson.

Nightwing: Eh, this one was disappointing….mostly Dick thinking about his circus and remembering stuff. I’m looking much more forward to the fight with the mercenary and murder plot he’s wrapped up in for Issue #2.

Supergirl: This was the shocker. I mostly picked up the issue to make my haul this week an even 5 (don’t ask), but I was really surprised at how much I liked it. I’ve never been Supergirl’s biggest fan, mostly enjoying her World’s Finest team-ups over solo issues. But this had gorgeous artwork, and a nice introspective plot that really got into Kara’s head. Plus, Superman showing up at the end promises to make the next issue a ton of fun. :)

Catwoman: This does not deserve all the criticism it’s getting right now. The artwork was fantastic and well laid out (the getting dressed scene in the beginning? Genius way to portray urgency and just how fast she needed to get out of her flat). The action was great and memorable, and we even got some vulnerability at the end when Batman shows up. It was that one second establishing that Batman is someone special to her, and that he cares for her well being, that makes the ending work so well.

Plus, it had Lola:

Lola

"Her name was Lola, she was a show girl~"

Any comic that makes a reference to Barry Manilow is okay in my book.

Red Hood and the Outlaws:  This is one of the ones I’ve been waiting for since I saw Under the Red Hood (standing tall as my favorite Batman movie; it even blew Return of the Joker out of the game). It did not disappoint. Roy & Jason play off each other great, I love the new Starfire, and the artwork was gorgeous and gritty. Plus, I really want to know more about Essence and the plot she’s establishing with Jason and his back story. :)

And for the record, Starfire was NOT the only fan service in that book. Heck yeah:

Jason Todd, Red Hood
