Katsucon 20 – 2014

I went to Katsucon 20! Since conventions are the only posts I keep up to date here any more, might as well make a post, right? Right.

Friday

Stood in the pre-registration line for three hours. Great way to start a Convention. The lines were crazy long all weekend this year. o_o

All I had time for was a quick trip in the Dealer’s Room and Artist Alley before heading out.

We had Korean BBQ that night though, and it was amazing. I’m in love with Bulgolgi.

Saturday

Dealer’s Room, Artist Alley and the AMV Competition were the main events. Didn’t do much else aside from getting to see Erin & Kennedy from the Tamuran crew while they waited in line for the Masquerade.

Came out of it with some great figures, but no Misato. Sadness.

Spent the evening watching The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya with friends.

Sunday

One last run through AA and Dealer’s.

Headed home.

It was a good time, but not as exciting as some previous years. So, that’s that.

Katsucon 19 – 2013

It’s that time again! My Convention report! No pictures today ’cause…honestly I didn’t buy any figures this year, and that’s really the only reason I take pictures to show off. So…reading you shall!

Friday

I got to the convention on time this year. XD I only had an hour delay! Go me!

As soon as I got there, we stood in line and registered (The Pre-Reg line was longer than the normal registration when we got there, which is sort of funny, but true…). Followed quickly by a trip to the dealer’s room. A friend showed up while we were there, so we ditched and helped her unpack.

From there, it was the AMV competition! Two of the videos had technical difficulties, which sucked, but overall it was a good show with a lot of great entries. Though one of the filler, pre-show entries: Gaga For Bishies, made me laugh the most.

After AMV’s we went back to the room and crashed watching some Tron: Uprising. Bold because you should watch it. WATCH IT.

Friday night ended with a trip to the VIP Club on the 18 & 19th floors of the Gaylord Hotel…and then bed.

Saturday

We finally hit the Artist’s Alley, where I got some awesome Tsuritama fanart. And you know how much I love Tsuritama. Then it was the Dealer’s room, where I actually behaved myself this year and only bought the Dark Souls Design Works art book, and a grab bag that I ended up giving the contents away to one of my roomies.

Oh! I got a plushie of Wheatley. That probably deserves a pic:

Wheatley Plush

Ain’t he cute? Yeah. He is. Let’s see. After Dealer’s Room, we hit Artist Alley & Ran into some fine folks at Tamuran and Snow by Night. I saw the TechnoAngel Crew’s booth, but didn’t say hi. xD But I saw them!

After that we tried to watch AMV Hell, but due to technological difficulties, we crashed the A Certain Scientific Railgun Video Room instead. Cute show. Might have to check out more later.

Then it was Dinner at the restaurant across from the hotel, and we returned in time for one more trip around Dealer’s and Artist Alley before heading to the showing of Hellsing: Ultimate Abridged. Funny stuff. (We also caught the end of an episode of Blood C. Violent stuff. XD)

Sunday

Apparently a fire alarm went off early in the morning, but we all thought it was someone’s alarm clock and ignored it. When the ‘all clear’ went off an hour or so later, we…realized we’d slept through something. Oops.

Got all our crap in the car, and went one more time around Dealer’s & Artist’s Alley. Though this time, I stopped being blind and actually noticed Naki’s booth. XD I’ve been talking to her online for like 12 years, so it was really cool to put a face to her name and artwork. :D

I also got a Braeburn keychain from her. <3

We ended our con trip by attending the Symphonic Anime Orchestra performance. Good stuff for a group that was pretty much sight reading. XD Nice selection & a great end. :3

And I’m out. :D

Katsucon 18 – 2012

Another year, another Katsucon. Katsucon will always have a special place for me, because it was the first Anime Convention I ever attended back when it was still in Crystal City DC!

…the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor is much nicer for the record. Man do I love that place. Perfect spot for the convention. <3

Moving on.

Friday

Arrived the earliest I’ve ever arrived at this convention-12:30pm. I blame my brother driving. XD We spent most of the day running around the Dealer’s Room and Artist Alley where I was greeted by an awesome surprise from Erin of Tamuran! :D

BLISS:

Bliss. That's Bliss.

Yeah. That guy found a real sphere of Chalcedony (what Bliss is made from)–and it is awesome. Even got one with a scratch on it:

Still awesome.

Yes, I did end up showing it off to everyone who knew who Bliss was. *cough* Lots of fun that. Yes, lots of fun.

I wore these all Friday and Saturday! :D

And of course, stopped by to say hello to TechnoAngel where my brother got a Brony button, and then next door I said ‘ello to Megami of Annie where I got a cute pair of cat ears! :D

Jealous of her sewing talents. >.>

Let’s see…finished up Friday with watching Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Been a while since I spent some time with Vash and co. and it was as great as I remember it being.

Also: Wolfwood. Wolfwood. Missed him so. XD

The rest of the day was Game Room fun (yay Rhythm games) and sleeping.

Saturday

AMV contest all the way. XD

Then more shopping and spending too much money.

Followed by watching Great Teacher Onizuka: The Movie (Live Action)–which was actually pretty good. I’m always a bit sketchy with Japanese Live Action shows. It’s not that they’re bad or anything, I’m just not a huge fan of the acting style–but it worked really well here and Onizuka was a sweetheart as always. :) Good movie.

At this point, we had a bit of a crisis with the plumbing in our room, and almost had to switch. Which would have sucked since we got an awesome balcony room overlooking the atrium this year. So cool to have an indoor balcony. <3 But it was all fixed and we got to keep the room. Yay!

We then watched some Madoka Magica and a little Antique Bakery. So lots of Video Room time this year for us! XD

Sunday

The usual. Wake up, pack like mad, and then do one last run through the dealer’s room! :D

Which means:

The Haul

This isn’t everything–I actually got a grab box with a ton of comics in it, but I did’t feel like taking a picture of everything that was in that thing. o_o

Moving on:

I love .hack anything.

I’ve been a huge fan of the .hack// series since I first caught .hack//Sign on Toonami. I then played through the first four set of games thanks to Creed (Thank you again! *hugs them*) & after that I dug into Roots & the .hack//GU games (My favorites). However! While I owned all the DVD’s to .hack//Sign, I was kinda broke when .hack//roots came out. *sniff* So, I’m really happy to have found all six individual DVDs. Normally I’d just get a box set, but I’m like part-OCD, so if I have Sign as individual DVDs, Roots needed to be the same. *foam*

I just like Keys.

Key necklace. I like keys. Love old fashioned looking Keys. No, it has nothing to do with Kingdom Hearts and an obsession I had with the Lady Luck therefore making any Key that has a card-deck theme of some sort irresistible. No, never.

Bros

Tee hee hee. I have Furuichi and Oga. <3 They’re so cute and little and I shall keep them hooked together like the best friends that they are. *pokes them*

Manga is good.

Yeah, so almost all my money this year went to Manga. After Tokyopop and its subdivision Blu went kaput, I decided this was probably my chance to snag a bunch of titles before I’m forced to hunt them down on Ebay. I read all of them before I got home. XD

And of Course, Misato

Last but not least, my Misato figurine! It’s not a convention unless I come home with a figure of her. XD I’m up to Five! :D They need to start releasing more, too. I’ve gotten around to the point where I’m seeing duplicates. o_o

Conclusion

Awesome convention. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m watching .hack//Roots. XD

Katsucon 2011

Another year, another Katsucon~

Your run down is now:

Friday: Overslept. By a lot. Ended up making a mad dash out the door and not arriving to the convention until 3:30PM or so. Put my stuff in the room & then registered. Spent the rest of the day waiting for my brother to arrive & wandered around the Artist’s Alley/Dealer’s room for a bit.

Speaking – Friday I said Hi to Erin from Tamuran – and he gave me the original artwork for his WaM Pair-a-Thon entry. Squee. Squee to the max. XD (The two post-cards were from KGJ. :D)

Katsucon Art

Prints from KGJ & Fanart from Erin

Oh, and Dinner was a Pot Bellies. Yum.

Saturday: Awoke bright and early (for me) around 8AM And headed off to places. My Bro and I went to the Hetalia International Relations panel, followed by the dealer’s room and…lunch in the room. (Our Room brought a LOT of food. We basically fed ourselves for three days and it was awesome. XD Name it and we probably had it – from Pocky to Summer Sausage and a certain roomie brought home made truffles. Yum.)

And then my Brother & I were going to go to an Evangelion panel, but we changed our mind and headed over to watch Summer Wars instead.

Summer Wars.

Just go buy it. It was a ridiculously good movie and I was choking up about to cry it was so good. And the dub was fantastic – Funimation pulled out all the stops. My brother and I bought the movie the second it was over and we could get to the Dealer’s room. I’d have a picture but my brother hijacked the DVD.

Instead – pics of the rest of my Katsucon Haul since I did all my shopping on Saturday. xD

Box from Eva

Okay, so the above box isnt’ something I bought. XD Miss Eva, a fan from WaM, found me in the Dealer’s room and gifted me with this hand-painted box. So sweet. Thank-you Miss Eva!!! :D

Now, toys:

Eva Charm

I won’t lie. I might be hunting down the rest of these charms on Ebay. They are ridiculously cute and I’m almost sad I only bought one. I seriously want the entire set of them. They’re tiny. They feature drink bottles/cans AND they somehow made all those angels preciously adorable. *pets her one keychain*

Misato in Pink

I think I can finally admit to myself that I have a super girl!crush on Misato Katsuragi from Evangelion. I have three figurines of her and that is the most figures I have of any one animated character. And worst? There are others I still want – this was just the one I bought at the con (I’m trying to limit my figure purchases. XD)

But I love her so. Fear my Misato collection:

MISATO

Yeah. She’s hot. I know it. And two should look familiar because they’ve been featured on this blog before. XD In fact, I bought the large on at the last Katsucon. XD

Doujinshi

Last but not least – I splurged on a few doujinshi. Can you believe I found a doujinshi that features Touji from Evangelion that’s well drawn? I know. Awesome find. An Ichigo/Ishida doujinshi that I’d read before and the last two are from S-CRY-D – I don’t see doujinshi from that series often so I figured I should grab them while I saw them. Yay!

Webcomics...

Last but not least, aside from my brother purchasing the Ensign Sue Must Die printed book, only two Webcomic Artists actually said hello when we stopped by their booth (you know, aside from Erin and Megami – who knew us XD) So I figured I’d post them here so I actually remember to go check out their strips when I get free time.

Today Nothing Happened & Final Arcanum

If you read them before me, let me know how they are. XD

Sunday: Sunday can be summed up by one word: EVANGELION.

My brother and I woke up at 6:30 AM to pack all of our things and get them out to our car in order to be able to make the 8AM showing of Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (NOT) Advance.

Worth it. Sooooo worth it. *noms on DVD not coming out until the end of March*

We left immediately afterwards to keep ourselves from spending money. XD

And then I read Batman Comics until I worked up the nerve to make this post.

Yeah; I’m that awesome. :D

Katsucon 16 – The Haul

Whoo hoo~ If you’ve been paying attention over at WaM – you know I’ve been at Katsucon 16 all weekend! Huzzah!

So here’s your report & it’s a long one!

Friday –

Arrived around one o’clock due to a late start and traffic. Got registered & caught up with my bro. We hit the dealer’s room before meeting up with the rest of our crew. Caught the end of the AMV’s and then got some grub. Around 9 my brother and I went to stand in line for the Formal Dance and had fun in the line game. (I got to Salute Cobra Commander in a suit! :D And he saluted back! *Squee*). Dance itself was a bust. Got a free hug from a girl in a very cute Lolita outfit but otherwise didn’t stay long b/c I ended up being a wallflower. Spent the rest of the night reading & Introducing Hetalia to my unsuspecting buddy KGJ (Cagey Jay). I think I killed her brain with that one.

Saturday –

More dealers room, more AMV’s and went to Artists’ Alley. Spent too much money. XD Later that evening we went to catch the AMV & Masquerade Awards.

The Awesome? Tiffany & her guy Anthony (My roomies for the Con & friends from college( won best upbeat Video!! :D It’s called Boom, Boom, BOOM! And features various anime. Go check it out – it’s awesome.

And her friend also got an award for costume (JournyMan’s award I believe. But Tiff ended up modeling. Good stuff.)

Spent Saturday night looking for food and watching more Hetalia. :D

Well, after a very long Photoshoot with the costume winners and myself & KGJ (We were cosplaying as Mordred and Wiglaf. Expect pics of that to show up over at WaM XD)

Sunday –

Slept in…packed up. Checked out after one more romp in the dealer’s room. Hurrah! :D Long drive home and then procrastination.

But here’s what you really care about:

The Haul

Below are all the big items. I also got a bunch of little bleach charms and stuff in a mixed bag but I didn’t feel like photographing all of those. XD
