Black Cat Limited Series (And Tangent)

Normally I’d wait for my fangirl filled post on Friday, but I had some thoughts I’d like to expand on specifically for Black Cat (and those thoughts aren’t exactly fangirling. XD). Plus, I feel like I’m making a point that scenes are subjective when it comes to fiction and literature. :D

Spoilers below – but I’m sure you’ve guessed that.

Liliy is a Fangirl #4

And we’re down to Anime & Comics this week! :D

Anime

No. 6: Why is it over? WHY? *sobs in a corner* I want more. *glares at it*

Digimon: Still working through this…slowly. Been so busy. XD

Comics

This was my biggest DC haul yet. XD

Batman: This was probably the big winner this week. It not only featured Gotham in all it’s glory, but a sneak at the entire house of Arkham, a Joker/Batman tag-team fight, and we got to see both Tim and Damian. Plus, Gordon, Vicki Vale, Bullock, and a sneak peak at a great story arc featuring our favorite Boy Wonder: Dick Grayson.

Nightwing: Eh, this one was disappointing….mostly Dick thinking about his circus and remembering stuff. I’m looking much more forward to the fight with the mercenary and murder plot he’s wrapped up in for Issue #2.

Supergirl: This was the shocker. I mostly picked up the issue to make my haul this week an even 5 (don’t ask), but I was really surprised at how much I liked it. I’ve never been Supergirl’s biggest fan, mostly enjoying her World’s Finest team-ups over solo issues. But this had gorgeous artwork, and a nice introspective plot that really got into Kara’s head. Plus, Superman showing up at the end promises to make the next issue a ton of fun. :)

Catwoman: This does not deserve all the criticism it’s getting right now. The artwork was fantastic and well laid out (the getting dressed scene in the beginning? Genius way to portray urgency and just how fast she needed to get out of her flat). The action was great and memorable, and we even got some vulnerability at the end when Batman shows up. It was that one second establishing that Batman is someone special to her, and that he cares for her well being, that makes the ending work so well.

Plus, it had Lola:

Lola

"Her name was Lola, she was a show girl~"

Any comic that makes a reference to Barry Manilow is okay in my book.

Red Hood and the Outlaws:  This is one of the ones I’ve been waiting for since I saw Under the Red Hood (standing tall as my favorite Batman movie; it even blew Return of the Joker out of the game). It did not disappoint. Roy & Jason play off each other great, I love the new Starfire, and the artwork was gorgeous and gritty. Plus, I really want to know more about Essence and the plot she’s establishing with Jason and his back story. :)

And for the record, Starfire was NOT the only fan service in that book. Heck yeah:

Jason Todd, Red Hood

ABS

Red Hood & The Outlaws: Starfire

I must be a masochist…let’s talk about Red Hood and the Outlaws‘ Starfire! (Also, if you see a ‘Skyfire’ pop up – my bad. I’m a huge Transformers fan and Skyfire is one of my favorites, so I’ve ended up typing his name instead of ‘Star’-fire on autopilot more times than I can count this week. It’s not unheard of that I might have missed one…and if I make it all the way through without a slip – yay me! :D)

The following is mostly going to be focused on Starfire, but you can read what I thought of the rest of the comic (along with Catwoman) in a little bit with my next ‘Fangirl’ post. ^^

This is a long one, so I actually used one of my ‘read more’ dividers. Ha ha. This should be a given, also, but there be spoilers below. :)

Liliy is a Fangirl #3

It’s that time again! Though this one is much shorter.

Movies

Rewatched Watchmen in honor of my Sally Jupiter Cosplay I’m attempted to put together by Nekocon.

Love that movie all over again. I adore the movie adaption costumes, and the changes they made to the ending and just….well, let’s say I’m a huge fan of the movie and so-so on the original comic.

Speaking of comics:

Comics!

The new DC 52 continues to pour out the titles & this week I only picked up two: Superboy & Deathstroke

Superboy: Can’t fangirl enough. If I can’t have my 90’s self-absorbed Kid, than I’m glad I at least got this one. This Superboy is sort of an odd mix of the new Young Justice Superboy & the more mature Teen Titan Superboy (as in he acts like an older Kon, but at only 3 months old. XD). Lots of love. Why? Because this happened (spoilers be damned I’m posting it!):

Superboy #1 Clip

Superboy #1 Clip

Yes. That’s right. My favorite part about Superboy was hinted at and so help me if Lex Luthor isn’t his other Daddy, and this was just someone messing with the fans, I will pitch a fit. PITCH. A. FIT. One of the best things about Superboy, aka Kon-El, aka Conner Kent was he came from two total opposite people to create a much more interesting and conflicted character. It’s something I won’t forgive if it disappears from the reboot.

*cough* Moving on.

Deathstroke: Issue #1 involved someone assigning Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, aka SLADE, to a team of teenagers. I don’t know if they’re poking fun at the fact he tends to chase jail-bait or trying to break him of the “I’m famous for molesting the Teen Titans” claim-to-fame, but it was fun none-the-less. They definitely played up the “Slade is Old” aspect and it worked out fairly well. Either way, I’ve been a huge Slade fangirl since he was adapted to the Teen Titans cartoon series, so it’s not hard to believe I’m grabbing issue #2.

And, this last one isn’t from the new DC 52, but it did catch me off guard:

Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam (Issues 1-4): My experience with Captain Marvel is pretty limited – I saw his part in “World Without Grownups” (JLA/Young Justice) & a small fight in the first Superman/Batman movie, but otherwise all I knew was he was a kid who turned into Captain Marvel. Comixology had the first issue for free, so I went ahead and snagged it because I was bored.

I was pleasantly surprised. It’s from the DCKids line (Yay Tiny Titans!), so the stories are light, and the art is much more cartoony, but it was a fun read and it made me laugh. It was actually a nice break from all the doom and gloom I’ve been getting from my DC 52 picks. (Detective Comics, why won’t you leave me alone!? XD).

I really enjoyed the artwork & I got all current 6 issues for .99 a piece, so not a bad deal. My only caveat is that I really only liked the first four issues. The artists/writer changed for issues 5 & 6 and I’ll admit I lost interest. The art style lost that fun, lanky edge & it distracted more than I’d like form the story. But the first four were great with Black Adam vs Captain Marvel.

And it had this face:

Theo is not having a good day.

Round Up

I think that’s really it for this go around. I spent so much of my time working on my Rumble-Fest OCT entry I didn’t have much time for other things.

I think now I’m going to go get caught up on Digimon and save the last episode of No. 6 for when I’m ready to give it my full attention. XD

Liliy is a Fangirl #2

And we’re back for another fun fangirl Friday rambling session. Oh, yeah~

Games

Minecraft. Good lord that game is addictive. I now know why I avoided it for so long. But seriously: Legos for adults. I’m currently building my castle and loving it. XD

And because I’m a loser I play on Peaceful mode. Stupid Creepers. *_*

“SHEEP.”

(I’ll update this post with screenshots once I have them. XD)

Books/Comics

The New 52 of DC continues~ After looking at the full list I had about 13-14 series I wanted to pick up. This week had 3 of my definite must haves!

Action Comics #1: New cocky, rebellious Superman. Let’s do a little back story – Superman had never been my cup of tea. He was the perfect Boy Scout and a little boring, so I never really grabbed any of his solo titles. Now, make him dorky Clark Kent or stick him in a room with Batman & I’m all over that. So I definitely never hated the big guy, it just wasn’t my first choice. That said, the new attitude on Superman is almost…weird. I kinda’ miss the boy scout, but I’m willing to give him a shot.

Detective Comics #1: I love Batman. The reboot gives me a chance to get in on the comic action (I was so far behind it didn’t seem worth it XD) so this was a no brainer. Comic was creepy. Seriously. The last page *shiver.*

Static Shock #1: I loved the Static Shock cartoon. Virgil & Richie were fun and had that smart-alec Spiderman thing going on & we all know that super heros deserve proper witty banter. I found out much later it was based off a comic series, but like most didn’t have the money or time to ‘catch up’ to the current issue. Reboot? Yes, please. I loved issue #1. It was funny & entertaining. Can’t wait for issue #2.

And thanks to Comixology Sales, I have a few Marvel comics as well!

The Ultimates 2: I…read this for the Thor storyline. I’ll be honest. I love how differently Thor & Loki were handled and how everyone thought he was crazy. I’m crossing my fingers for Ulitmates (the first part) to go on Sale so I can see him join the team instead of just the ending.

Ultimate Thor: Tie in to the Ultimates universe. Loved it as well. Lots of fun Loki action and gave all the backstory for Thor in The Ultimates.

…I think I just like Thor. A lot. Speaking….that dvd came out this week. *ponders*

Anime

No. 6: Episode. No. 10. *twitch* Much, much fangirl squealing commenced after that episode. Words don’t describe my love for Sion and Rat and I refuse to say anything more because I don’t want to spoil it. XD

And now for the real meat of today’s fangirling:

I drew this back in 2001 (or 2003...I don't remember.)

DIGIMON:

Let’s go back in time shall we? It’s 2001, Liliy hasn’t started her comics yet and she drew constant fanart. Oh yeah, she also had fan-digi characters.

Yes. I had an FDD. Fun stuff that. I even wrote the bad (really, really) bad fanfiction that went with it.

Oh, and I had the biggest crush on Ken Ichijouji EVER. It was bad…sooo bad.

Back to today!

Browsin’ around CrunchyRoll for something to watch inbetween No. 6 updates, and went ‘Oh hai! They’ve got Digimon!” Specifically, Digimon Adventures 02 & Digimon Tamers. I figured – why the heck not? Series 2 was my favorite & I hadn’t seen it in forever (I still wish they had the first series…) so I was on-board the nostalgia train!

Well, once I got past the ‘….this is in Japanese’ weirdness. Having only seen the dub it took some getting used to, but I adjusted quickly.

And I officially fell in love with Wormmon & the Digimon Kaiser (Emperor) all over again. Ken was so much more fun when he was running around being evil. He had better hair, cool glasses and he was a royal little tyrant. I love him so much. Hee hee.

Wormmon won me over though with a single line (that I’ve paraphrased) : “You’re staying here? That means we can always be together! I’m so happy. *nuzzles Ken-chan’s leg*”

I. Melted. Sooo, so cute. Squee. Squee I say. I love that little guy & Stingmon is awesome.

And Davis & V-Mon are also love. And TK. And Angemon.

You get the gist.
